Changes to the list of valid Resolutions after CoP12

New Resolutions

At the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (Santiago, 2002), 11 new Resolutions were adopted.

Revised Resolutions

Also at CoP12, the Conference of the Parties revised 14 current Resolutions. The revised versions are now available on this site and can be identified by the suffix (Rev. CoP12) after the number of the Resolution. This is the format that will be followed for the numbering of revised Resolutions starting with the 12th meeting. The revised Resolutions are the following:

  • Conf. 1.5 (Rev. CoP12) – Interpretation and implementation of certain provisions of the Convention
  • Conf. 4.6 (Rev. CoP12) – Submission of draft resolutions and other documents for meetings of the Conference of the Parties
  • Conf. 9.24 (Rev. CoP12) – Criteria for amendment of Appendices I and II
  • Conf. 10.8 (Rev. CoP12) – Conservation of and trade in bears
  • Conf. 10.10 (Rev. CoP12) – Trade in elephant specimens
  • Conf. 10.14 (Rev. CoP12) – Quotas for leopard hunting trophies and skins for personal use
  • Conf. 10.15 (Rev. CoP12) – Establishment of quotas for markhor hunting trophies
  • Conf. 10.19 (Rev. CoP12) – Traditional medicines
  • Conf. 11.1 (Rev. CoP12) – Establishment of Committees
  • Conf. 11.4 (Rev. CoP12) – Conservation of cetaceans, trade in cetacean specimens and the relationship with the International Whaling Commission
  • Conf. 11.8 (Rev. CoP12) – Conservation of and control of trade in Tibetan antelope
  • Conf. 11.9 (Rev. CoP12) – Conservation of and trade in tortoises and freshwater turtles
  • Conf. 11.10 (Rev. CoP12) – Trade in stony corals
  • Conf. 11.15 (Rev. CoP12) – Non-commercial loan, donation or exchange of museum and herbarium specimens
  • Conf. 11.17 (Rev. CoP12) – Annual reports and monitoring of trade

In addition, the Conference of the Parties revised five Resolutions relating to financing and budgeting of the Secretariat and of meetings of the Conference of the Parties. These Resolutions were amended simply in order to delete the paragraph relating to the procedure for approval of externally funded projects. The Resolutions concerned are excluded from the list of valid Resolutions because, although they have not been formally repealed, each one is considered to have been superseded by the next one on the same subject. They therefore remain in effect in particular as an indication of the scale of contributions agreed by the Conference of the Parties for past years and that unpaid contributions have still to be paid at the rates indicated. The Resolutions in this series revised at CoP12 are as follows:

  • Conf. 7.2 (Rev. CoP12)
  • Conf. 8.1 (Rev. CoP12)
  • Conf. 9.2 (Rev. CoP12)
  • Conf. 10.1 (Rev. CoP12)
  • Conf. 11.2 (Rev. CoP12)
