Late night update - wildlife cybercrime and pangolin numbers continue to decline

Updated on 28 October 2022

Wildlife crime being carried out over the internet was discussed in SC74's first evening session of the week. CITES, in partnership with INTERPOL is working on initiatives to combat this growing problem.

The Standing Committee also heard worrying news that Pangolin numbers are continuing to decline. Pangolins are hunted for their scales and their meat and are threatened with extinction. All Pangolin species are listed under Appendix I. This means that their trade is generally prohibited.
