Twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties

The two-week 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP12) was closed on the afternoon of 15 November 2002 in Santiago, Chile.

Of the 60 proposals for amendment of Appendices I and II, 44 were accepted by the Conference of the Parties, 7 were rejected and 9 withdrawn by the proponents. Thailand was elected on 15 Novembver as the host country of the 13th meeting of the Conference of the Parties.

Kuwait and Bhutan became the 159th and 160th Parties to CITES respectively during the meeting.

Chilean President Ricardo Lagos addressed the meeting on 12 November.
