CONCERNING:

AFGHANISTAN

Withdrawal of recommendation to suspend trade

1. In Notification to the Parties No. 2002/064 of 19 December 2002 the Secretariat informed Parties that, pursuant to Decision 11.37, the Conference of the Parties recommended that, until further notice, Parties should not authorize any trade in specimens of CITES-listed species with certain countries as these had not provided adequate justification for their failure to provide annual reports for three consecutive years within the deadline established in Resolution Conf. 11.17^*.

2. On 9 May 2003, Afghanistan advised the Secretariat that it had not authorized any trade in CITES specimens during the years 1999-2001.

3. The Secretariat therefore informs Parties that the recommendation to suspend trade with Afghanistan is withdrawn with immediate effect.

 

* This Resolution was revised at the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties and the revised version, Resolution Conf. 11.17 (Rev. CoP12), came into effect in February 2003.
