CONCERNING:

Specific reservations

1. The Depositary Government (Government of the Swiss Confederation) has informed the Secretariat that following the amendments to Appendices I and II of the Convention adopted at the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (Santiago, 2002), the following reservations were made.

When depositing its reservations, Norway made the following declaration (original version in English):

"It is our understanding, however, that Rhincodon typus and in particular Hippocampus spp. may benefit from being listed in Appendix II. Norway may therefore reconsider its reservations when the new CITES criteria are adopted and when FAO has finished its work concerning the relationship and cooperation between CITES and regional fisheries organizations."

2. The amendments to Appendices I and II adopted at the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties came into effect on 13 February 2003. Consequently the above reservations entered into effect on that date except the reservations regarding the inclusion of Hippocampus spp. in Appendix II, since this amendment will enter into effect on 15 May 2004. A revised version of the ‘Specific reservations entered by Parties’, valid from 13 February 2003, is attached to this Notification.

3. This Notification replaces Notification to the Parties No. 2002/076 of 19 December 2002.
