Notifications to the Parties

CONCERNING:

Specific reservations

1. The Depositary Government has informed the Secretariat that, on depositing their instruments of accession, Iceland and The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia entered the following reservations, in accordance with Article XXIII, paragraph 2, subparagraph a), of the Convention:

a) ICELAND (effective 2 April 2000)

2. The Depositary Government has also informed the Secretariat that Japan, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom respectively entered the following reservations with respect to species included in Appendix I and Appendix III:

a) JAPAN

in Appendix I

- Balaenoptera bonaerensis (formerly included in Balaenoptera acutorostrata)
(effective 19 July 2000)

in Appendix III

- Cetorhinus maximus (in addition to whole animals, fins and parts of fins only)
(effective 13 September 2000)

b) NETHERLANDS

in Appendix III

- Mustela altaica
- Mustela kathiah
- Mustela sibirica
 (effective 18 July 2000)

c) UNITED KINGDOM

in Appendix III

- Mustela altaica
- Mustela kathiah
- Mustela sibirica
(effective 11 August 2000).

3. It should be noted that, at its 11th meeting, the Conference of the Parties adopted a nomenclature that recognizes the species Balaenoptera bonaerensis as having been formerly included in the species Balaenoptera acutorostrata. Reservations that had been entered with respect to the latter species before the adoption of the new nomenclature are therefore applicable to the former species.

4. A revised version of the "Specific reservations entered by Parties", valid from 2 October 2000, is attached to this Notification.

5. This Notification replaces Notification to the Parties No. 1999/86 of 5 November 1999.
