Ger van Vliet retires
On
31 March, Dr Ger van Vliet retired from the Secretariat after
15 years of commitment and hard work. Ger was the CITES Plants
Officer until January 2002 and can look back at having succeeded
in putting plant issues on the CITES agenda at the same level
as animal-related issues. He spent his last years with the Secretariat
as its Senior Training Officer, which gave him an opportunity
to share his wealth of scientific and practical knowledge of CITES
implementation with colleagues around the globe. The Secretariat
thanks Ger for his invaluable contributions to species conservation
and wishes him a long, healthy and happy retirement.
